Camilla Pedersen Triatlet Denmark

The first Danish female to go under nine hours for an Ironman, Camilla is a fighter. After a serious bike crash left her in a coma, bounced back to take the long-distance triathlon world title the next year. And she hasn’t looked back.

Q & A with Camille Pedersen

How did you start running? I started running to relax when I was studying– but I guess I really started when I began my triathlon career in 2010.

Why do you run now? Well, now, it’s a part of my job!

What was the most important race you’ve run to date? It’s hard to pick just one. Maybe my first race after my accident in 2013 (After a crash while cycling, Camille spent three weeks in coma. Doctors told Camille that she would never walk again).

What is your pre-race ritual? Be happy, relaxed and mentally ready.

What do you think about while running? A LOT of different things – it’s hard to say one. But it´s my favorite ‘free’ time.

How do you recover after a tough run? I use a ‘Compex’ machine (an electric muscle stimulator) for recovery and take care to hydrate.

What song is your go-to for the run? That varies, but on a hard run, I like AC/DC – ‘Highway to Hell’ and ‘Thunderstruck’ are my favorites.

Apart from endurance sports, what is your passion? Ice hockey, family and food.

What would you be doing if you weren’t a professional athlete? Working with people that need assistance, which I already do at the moment as an ambassador for a foundation that supports kids with long-term illnesses.

What does no one tell you about being a professional athlete? It´s a lot of work next to all the training, when you’re a full time professional and have to manage it all by yourself with sponsorships, travel accommodation, flights etc.

What was the best piece of running advice you ever received? Make sure to change your shoes for your runs so it´s not always the same pair for every run.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to follow in your footsteps? Make sure you have more than one pair of Ons.

Why On? That’s simple – it’s perfect, and you have shoes for all different types of runs – trail, path, pavement, track, rain etc.

What’s your favorite On shoe and why? For running I like the Cloudflow – it´s comfortable and fits perfectly for almost every run session. For daily wear, I choose the Cloud.
